Behind the scenes

WITH INDIA HICKS &
TATLER MAGAZINE

OXFORDSHIRE, ENGLAND

One morning — quite early before any coffee consumption, India Hicks rang me with an invitation to join her at her home outside London to shoot the holiday catalogue for her new lifestyle brand. I was thrilled. I had mostly photographed India at her home in the Bahamas, so I quickly accepted her invitation and booked my flight. Unfortunately, I made one small’ish oversight ... I was scheduled to run a half marathon the very day I was flying out.  No big deal, it's a red eye flight.  I convinced myself I would be so exhausted after huffing and puffing my way through 13.2 hilly miles that I would simply pass out on the plane and wake up refreshed and ready to go.

In theory, it would have been an acceptable plan had I not been wedged into a fully occupied row next to a sleepy, sweaty jumbo sized youth (think giant rugby player) and a window seat with a view of a roaring jet engine.  There was no sleep to be had and my stiff achy legs refused to find even one comfortable position through the entire 8 hour flight. Exhausted, I powered on with the knowledge that my arrival was 24 hours in advance of our scheduled shoot and a nice cozy nap in one of India's beautifully appointed guest rooms would be in my near future.

So you can imagine my surprise when I walked into India's kitchen fresh from the airport, bags in tow, to find an entire photo crew preparing to do a full day of shooting with the beautiful, energetic lady of the house.

"Britt, You are here!" she exclaimed and ran across the room to greet me with a warm hug and kisses.
"Tatler magazine is here doing a story on me.  Want to come along?"

“Of course!” I heard myself say as I thought about the big fluffy bed at the end of the hall.
